![]() ![]() ![]() I'll try to contact them and update this post if I ever hear back. Looks to be a lens issue, and since its out of warranty, I'm assuming Viltrox won't help me out. They had a Fuji version of the same lens that was having the same problems. Quick update: I went into my local camera shop and asked them for ideas. On top of that, I'm unable to get the lens to show up when I hook it up to my laptop or my pc (I've tried 4 different micro USB cables, one of which I bought today that is supposedly rated for charging and data transfer).Īny help/advice with this will be greatly appreciated. Whenever I have any other lens mounted everything seems to work fine (this also includes a sigma lens with the FTZ adapter), but when I put the Viltrox on it automatically switches to MF mode, and I lose the ability to change the aperature. I was hoping it was an isolated problem, but it continues on. I first noticed this issue back in October, but haven't had time to shoot since then. My Viltrox 85mm has stopped autofocusing on my z6. better AF-C than his AF-S lenses on FTZ, in stills and video. fast AF, almost as fast as Nikon Z lens. Quick summary: - solid construction, nice focus ring, good budget portrait lens build. hope we get f1.6 on MK2, there's also space at 1.8 to open blades more.I tried searching through this sub to see if I could find anyone else having these same issues, and I didn't see a post so I figured I'd ask. Most importantly, weight is absolutely perfect. The motor and focusing seemed same to me but didn't really test properly, mark 2 is at least as good as 1. I CAN say that wide open the mark 2 i got is noticeably sharper than my mark 1, and MK2 showed no purple fringing on writing unlike the mark 1 see the whole thing cast in purple on my indoor test shot (writing on white paper), so it looks to me like the new lens improves CA considerably. This let me sell my mark 1 and i got the mark 2 on sale 2 weeks ago. my a6400 seems to be metering the same in my limited test. did not see any noticeable difference in image quality at 1.6 vs 1.8 on mk1. bought the mark 2 lens to test with my mark 1. I applied the firmware, indeed the blades were open about 90% on 1.8, and now fully at 1.6. All this is to say that installing (possibly unofficial) firmware into your lens is a risk with unknown consequences. FujiRumors, on the other hand, reached out to Viltrox and was told that firmware to turn the F1.8 lens into an F1.6 lens had not been released. Sony Addict reported that the firmware was released officially in China. With a simple firmware update, you can get an extra one-third of a stop of light gathering capability.Īs PetaPixel notes, there are conflicting reports as to the origin of the firmware. This update allows the lens to open its aperture wider, changing the maximum aperture from F1.8 to F1.6. ![]() Photographer Stefan Malloch has published a video tutorial, seen below, which shows how to use the USB port on the lens to update the lens. It now appears that wide open can be made even wider with a firmware update allowing the lens to become an F1.6 prime. Owners have remarked that the lens delivers sharp image quality even when shot wide open. The $400 Viltrox 85mm F1.8 lens is a popular choice for Sony E and Fujifilm X users due to its compelling blend of performance and value. ![]()
